What about having another opinion on the novel Un aller simple by Didier Van Cauwelaert?

This novel encouraged a lot of discussions in Martine's French classes, it was also a lot of fun as it is a book full of humour and wit.
Here is what Pete had to say, in his own very witty way!
Un aller simple - ça mérite un tour ?

C’est un roman qui sort de l’ordinaire - un mélange d’ humour truculent, d’observation vive et de scènes surréalistes.

Notre narrateur - Aziz - est orphelin, adopté par des tsiganes qui habitent dans les banlieues de Marseille - voleur des autoradios et innocent - un Candide des temps modernes. Il décrit ses expériences comme il est arrêté et rapatrié à tort au Maroc, et ses relations développantes avec son « garde de corps » Jean-Pierre Schneider - en parts égales (mais autrement) innocent de la vie. Il y a beaucoup de coups de théâtre, un peu de tristesse et une finale satisfaisante - si un peu incroyable.

Alors  …… un tour est mérité ? Oui  ……. peut-être même un retour !!

  1. A general comment about AF. Imagine studying a contemporary novel in detail, and then being able to hear the author in person talking about it, and even ask him questions. It was a young guy called Tanguy Viel, and the book was Paris Brest. Sign up now!
